At Perfect Dental our dental bridges and dental crowns in Fort Worth are made from the highest quality materials offering strength and durability to help protect your smile.
A dental porcelain crown is in effect a cap or covering for your teeth. Made to fit over the entire tooth surface they can be used to cover teeth for cosmetic purposes, for instance, blemished or badly stained teeth; or to protect the tooth from further damage such as chips or cracks. Alternatively, a porcelain crown can also be used as part of a framework to replace a missing tooth or teeth in the form of a dental bridge. Our Fort Worth dentist fits high-quality dental crowns that match the shape, size, and color of your existing teeth, which if looked after, can last for many years.
What does a dental crown procedure involve?
Usually, this is a multi-stage process requiring two visits. On the first visit, our Perfect Dental team will take an impression of your tooth. This is used to make your new custom crown. Then the area around the tooth is numbed and the tooth is reshaped slightly in order to ensure the best fit. Once done, a temporary adhesive is applied and a temporary crown is fitted. Finally, Our Fort Worth dentist will check your bite for comfort.
On your second visit, usually around 2 weeks later, your temporary crown will be removed, the surface area of the tooth cleaned up, and your permanent crown attached. Finally, we’ll check for bite and spacing to ensure your new porcelain crown fits properly and looks good.
Dental Bridges in Fort Worth
As mentioned previously, hard wearing dental crowns can also be used for porcelain fixed bridges. These are ideal when a patient has one or more adjacent missing teeth. In effect, the dental crowns sit on a framework which is anchored to natural teeth on either side of the space. Once fitted they span or ‘bridge‘ the gap restoring bite functionality and aesthetics. Similarly to fitting singular dental crowns, a mold is taken and the adjacent natural teeth are reshaped to take the crowns and framework for the bridge. Then, a temporary bridge is fitted to protect the exposed teeth and gums.
On a second visit, the temporary bridge is removed and the new permanent porcelain bridge is fitted, although several visits may be made in order to ascertain the correct bite position.
